  • Réalt Nua Education and Training Programme

    Réalt Nua is the Community Employment Education & Training Programme of Ballyfermot STAR. As of December 2006, Réalt Nua consists of two distinct Programmes targeting two different user groups.
  • The first Programme operates in the morning and the second Programme in the afternoon. Each distinct Programme has a dedicated premises located next to each other in Parkwest Industrial Estate.
  • The philosophy of Réalt Nua's CE Education & Training Programmes is to support individuals to access existing services within the community and to provide progression paths into treatment, rehabilitation, and mainstream further education and employment.  There are 21 CE placesallocated to participants in Réalt Nua's morning Programme. In addition,there are 15 CE places allocated to Réalt nua's low threshhold programme.
  • Although both CE Education & Training Programmes operate from a similar philosophy, the criteria for entry into both Programmes are very different.
  • Morning Programme:
    The crireria for entry in Réalt Nua's Morning Programme consists of the following:
    The individual must be stable on methadone/drug free. the individual will have reduced his/her use or stopped using benzodiazepines. The individual must show a willingness to engage in the Programme. the individual must show a motivation to participate.
  • Afternoon Programme:
    The crireria entry into this Programme consists of the following:
    The individual must show a willingness to engage in the Programme.  The individual must show a motivation to participate in the Programme.
  • Participant Profile
    The participant profile of each programme is very similar in that the programme is open to:
    Males and females 18 years old +, although there is an older age group presenting to the afternoon programme.  Residents of the Dublin 10, Palmerstown and Chapelizod areas.
  • Réalt Nua Education and Training Modules
    The Education and Training Programme provides a range of broad based and holistic introductory and FETAC accredited modules to meet the varying educational, physical, creative and emotional needs of the group.&The following are some of the educational programmes that have been and are currently being implemented in Réalt Nua's morning Programme:

    Introductory Modules:
    Addiction Studies, Personal Development and Self Awareness, Relapse Prevention, Political Analysis, Music Appreciation, Anti Racism, Gender Studies, Health & Personal Care, Health Related Fitness, Drama, Enneagram Workshop, Conflict Resolution, Food & Cookery, Drama, Holistic Education.
  • FETAC Modules:
    Horticulture, English, Maths, Computers, Occupational First Aid, Office Procedures, Historical Studies, Communications, Personal and Interpersonal Skills, Art & Design, Art & Crafts, Outdoor Education.

    The modules being currently delivered with the afternoon programme/to be implemented are based on a detailed assessment of the current participants needs.
  • Introductory Modules:
    Addiction Studies, Triggers and Associations, Harm Minimisation, Health Awareness (including HEP C and H.I.V. Awareness), Stress Management, Drama, Self Care and Awareness.
  • FETAC Modules:
    Literacy and Communications, Art & Crafts, Horticulture, Food, Cookery and Nutrition, Health Related Fitness.
  • Additional Supports
    Keyworking: all participants are assigned a keyworker and a care plan developed
    Counselling: all participants can avail of counselling when appropriate
    Complimentary Treatments:
    participants have the option of availing of complimentary treatments to promote a physical and emotional well being.
